About Isle of Man Coinage
The Isle of Man has issued its own coins since 1709. The Manx pound is pegged at par with the British pound. The island is known for creative coin designs including triangular coins, square coins, and unusual denominations. The Isle of Man was the first to issue a one pound coin in 1983, predating the UK. Manx coins feature the ruling monarch and local symbols including the triskelion and the Manx cat. The island actively markets commemorative coins to collectors worldwide.
