About Byzantine Hexagram
A silver coin introduced by Heraclius during the war with Persia. Featured the emperor and his son on one side and a cross on steps on the other. Weighing about 6.8 grams, the hexagram was the first Byzantine silver coin in centuries. The hexagram circulated mainly in the eastern provinces. The coin was discontinued by Leo III in 720, leaving the bronze follis as the only non gold denomination.
