About British Halfpenny
Also called the ha penny. Worth half a penny. The pre-decimal halfpenny was minted until 1969. Featured Britannia on the reverse, later replaced by a sailing ship. The coin was essential for small purchases in Victorian Britain. Charles Dickens mentioned halfpennys frequently in his novels. The decimal halfpenny was introduced in 1971 but withdrawn in 1984 as too small to be useful.
