About British Half Crown
Worth two shillings and sixpence, or one eighth of a pound. Featured the monarch and the royal arms or a shield. The half crown was a substantial coin, larger than a quarter. It was the coin traditionally given as a tip. Winston Churchill referred to the half crown in his writings about Victorian England. Minted until 1967. Withdrawn in 1970 ahead of decimalisation.
