About US Half Cent
The smallest denomination ever minted by the United States. Worth half a cent or 1/200 of a dollar. Minted from 1793 to 1857. The half cent was useful for making change when Spanish copper coins were withdrawn. Featured Liberty in various designs. The 1793 half cent is extremely rare. Discontinued because production costs exceeded face value. Nearly all half cents are valuable to collectors today.
