About Mughal Gold Mohur
The standard gold coin of the Mughal Empire. Akbar standardized the mohur at approximately 10.9 grams of pure gold. The mohur featured the emperors name and titles in elegant Persian calligraphy. Jahangir issued extraordinary commemorative mohurs including the zodiac series with astrological signs. The 1613 gold mohur is extremely rare. The British continued minting mohurs until 1891. Mughal gold mohurs represent the pinnacle of Islamic numismatic artistry.
