About US One Dollar Gold
The smallest US gold coin, only 13 millimeters in diameter for the Type 1. The gold dollar was created during the California Gold Rush. Three types exist: Type 1 Liberty Head, Type 2 Small Indian Head, and Type 3 Large Indian Head. The 1861-D gold dollar was minted by the Confederacy at the Dahlonega mint after Georgia seceded. The gold dollar was minted until 1889. Over 50 million were produced but many were melted in later years.
