About US Gold Certificate
Paper currency backed by gold coin held by the Treasury. The holder could exchange for gold on demand. Featured distinctive gold seals and serial numbers. The 1900 Gold Standard Act made gold certificates the primary backing for US currency. The 1933 series was the last, as the US went off the domestic gold standard. Large size gold certificates are extremely rare and valuable. The 1882 $5000 note is legendary.
