Guinean Franc
About Guinean Franc
The currency of Guinea since independence from France in 1958. Replaced the CFA franc when Guinea left the franc zone under Sekou Toure. The Guinean franc has suffered from chronic inflation. Guinean banknotes feature national monuments and cultural motifs including the Grand Mosque of Conakry. The Central Bank of the Republic of Guinea was established in 1960. Guinea is rich in bauxite, gold, and diamonds but remains one of the poorest countries per capita.
