About Ghanaian Cedi
Ghana was the first African colony to gain independence in 1957. The cedi replaced the British West African pound. Ghana redenominated the cedi in 2007, removing four zeros. Ghanaian banknotes feature the Big Five animals and independence monuments. The Bank of Ghana was established in 1957. The cedi has been volatile, reflecting Ghanas dependence on commodity exports including gold, cocoa, and oil.
