About Genoese Genovino
The gold coin of the Republic of Genoa, introduced the same year as the Florentine florin. Featured the gateway of Genoa on one side and the cross on the other. Genoa and Florence pioneered the revival of gold coinage in medieval Europe simultaneously. The genovino was widely used in Mediterranean trade. Genoese bankers became the wealthiest in Europe, financing the Spanish Crown and Portuguese explorations.
