About French Indian Rupee
The currency of French India, covering Pondicherry, Chandernagore, Mahe, Yanam, and Karikal. The French Indian rupee was equivalent to the Indian rupee. Featured French inscriptions and the rooster or Liberty. French Indian banknotes were issued until 1954 when France ceded its Indian territories. The notes are rare and collected as evidence of French colonial presence in India.
