About Hungarian Forint
Named after the city of Florence, where the gold florin originated. The Hungarian forint was one of the most respected gold coins in medieval Europe, containing 3.5 grams of pure gold. King Charles I introduced the forint in 1325 based on the Florentine florin. Hungarys gold mines at Kremnica were the richest in medieval Europe. The modern forint was reintroduced in 1946, replacing the hyperinflated pengo.
