US First Strike Coins
About US First Strike Coins
A designation used by grading services PCGS and NGC for coins submitted within the first 30 days of release. First Strike or Early Releases labels add premium value for collectors. The designation is controversial as it does not guarantee the coin was among the first struck. The US Mint does not officially recognize first strike designations. Modern US Mint products often sell out within hours of release, creating a secondary market for first strike labeled coins.
