The heptagonal fifty pence coin replaced the ten shilling note. Featured Britannia on the reverse initially. The 50p commemorates various events with special reverse designs, including the 2012 Olympics with 29 different designs. Over 500 million have been minted. The heptagonal shape distinguishes it from other coins by touch. The Kew Gardens 50p of 2009 has a mintage of only 210,000 and is worth over 100 pounds. It is the most valuable circulating 50p.
