About British Farthing
A quarter of an old penny. The farthing was minted from the 13th century until 1956. Featured Britannia on the reverse. The wren replaced Britannia in 1937. Farthings were withdrawn in 1960 as they were essentially worthless. The word farthing comes from feorthing meaning a fourth part. Old English farthings were cut from pennies, literally a quarter of a silver penny.
