East India Company Coin
About East India Company Coin
Coins minted by the British East India Company in India. The EIC received minting rights from the Mughal emperor. The EIC gold mohur and silver rupee matched Mughal standards. The EIC also issued copper coins for local trade. The 1835 uniform coinage standardized designs across all EIC territories. The EIC coinage ended after the Indian Rebellion of 1857 when the British Crown took direct control. EIC coins are collected for their historical connection to colonial India.
