About Dutch East Indies Gulden
The currency of the Dutch East Indies, now Indonesia. First issued by the VOC. The gulden was modeled on the Dutch guilder but adapted for Asian trade. Featured Dutch inscriptions and the VOC monogram. The Japanese occupation of 1942 to 1945 destroyed the monetary system. After independence in 1945, Indonesia introduced the rupiah, replacing the gulden at par. Dutch East Indies coins are found throughout the archipelago.
