Greek Drachma
About Greek Drachma
The modern Greek currency from independence until the euro. Named after the ancient Greek drachma, one of the earliest coin denominations. The phoenix, the first modern Greek coin in 1828, was quickly replaced by the drachma. Greece suffered severe inflation and devaluations throughout the 20th century. The drachma was replaced by the euro in 2001, the first step before physical euro introduction in 2002. Fixed at 340.750 drachmas per euro.
