The twenty dollar gold coin, the largest denomination of regular issue US coinage. First minted during the California Gold Rush. The Saint-Gaudens double eagle of 1907 is considered the most beautiful American coin ever made, commissioned by Theodore Roosevelt. Contains 0.9675 ounces of pure gold. The 1933 double eagle was never officially released and is illegal to own, with specimens worth millions. One sold for 18.9 million dollars in 2021, the most expensive coin ever.
