About Hawaii Dolphin Dollar
See Hawaiian Coinage entry. The 1883 Hawaiian dollar featured King Kalakaua and was minted at the San Francisco Mint. The same year saw the dime, quarter, and half dollar minted. The Hawaiian dollar had a mintage of only 46,000. After annexation, most Hawaiian coins were redeemed and melted by the US government. The few survivors are valuable. The 1883 Hawaiian dollar is the centerpiece of any Hawaiian coin collection.
