About Cyprus Pound
The currency of Cyprus until euro adoption in 2008. The Cyprus pound was equal to the British pound sterling until 1972. After Cypriot independence in 1960, the Central Bank of Cyprus was established. Cyprus adopted the euro in 2008 at 0.5853 pounds per euro. The island was divided after the Turkish invasion of 1974, with the north using the Turkish lira and the south using the Cyprus pound and later the euro.
