About Lydian Croeseid
The coins of King Croesus of Lydia, who introduced pure gold and silver coins replacing electrum. The gold croeseid featured a lion and bull facing each other. Croesus was so wealthy that the phrase rich as Croesus became proverbial. The Persian conquest of Lydia in 546 BC gave them the Lydian minting technology. The croeseid set the standard for pure gold coinage that influenced the Persian daric.
