About US Coronet Cent
Also called the Matron Head or Liberty Head cent. Featured Liberty wearing a coronet inscribed LIBERTY. Minted from 1816 to 1839. Modified in 1835 to create the Young Head variant. The 1823 cent is the key date. Coronet cents were widely used and most surviving examples are heavily worn. Replaced by the Braided Hair cent in 1839 which lasted until large cents were discontinued in 1857.
