About Colombian Peso
The Colombian peso replaced the Spanish colonial real after independence. Colombia was part of Gran Colombia with Venezuela and Ecuador until 1830. The peso has been redenominated once in 1905. Colombian banknotes feature cultural figures including Gabriel Garcia Marquez on the 50,000 peso note. Colombia produces many of its coins at the Casa de Moneda in Bogota, one of the oldest mints in the Americas, founded in 1620.
