About Confederate One Cent
See Confederate Cent entry. The original 12 Confederate cents were struck by Robert Lovett Jr. of Philadelphia. The dies were hidden during the war and rediscovered in 1874. Haseltine made restrikes in copper and silver using copied dies. The original copper-nickel composition matches the US cent of 1860. The obverse featured Liberty in a Phrygian cap, the reverse a wreath of southern agricultural products.
