About Confederate Cent
A proposed one cent coin for the Confederacy. Designed by Robert Lovett Jr. of Philadelphia. Only 12 original specimens were struck before Lovett got nervous and hid the dies. The design featured Liberty in a Phrygian cap. In 1874, restrikes were made from copied dies. The original Confederate cents are among the rarest American coins. The Confederacy also produced a few pattern half dollars.
