About US Colonial Coin Detail
Colonial American coins include the Massachusetts Pine Tree and Oak Tree shillings minted in Boston from 1652 to 1682. The willow tree series preceded them. These coins defied English law forbidding colonial coinage. The Spanish dollar, Dutch lion dollar, and various British and Portuguese coins also circulated. The Higley copper of Connecticut, made from local copper, bore the inscription Value Me As You Please. Colonial coins are the foundation of American numismatics.
