About Chilean Peso
The Chilean peso was introduced during the wars of independence. Chile had the strongest currency in Latin America for decades due to copper exports and prudent fiscal policy. The peso was replaced by the escudo in 1960 and reintroduced in 1975 after the Pinochet coup. Chilean coins feature national heroes including Bernardo OHiggins. The Banco Central de Chile is considered one of the most competent central banks in Latin America.
