Carver-Washington Half
About Carver-Washington Half
A commemorative half dollar honoring both Booker T. Washington and George Washington Carver. Designed by Isaac Scott Hathaway. Minted from 1951 to 1954. Over 1.2 million were minted. The Carver-Washington half dollar was the last classic commemorative before the modern era began in 1982. The coin was sold to raise funds for the George Washington Carver National Monument. The combined design shows the two educators as advocates for racial equality through education.
