About Canadian Penny
The Canadian one cent coin was minted from 1858 to 2012. Featured maple leaves on the reverse. The Canadian penny was withdrawn from circulation in 2013 as it cost more to produce than it was worth. The Royal Canadian Mint melted over 6 billion pennies for recycling. The last penny was struck on May 4, 2012. Canadians were encouraged to donate pennies to charity during the phase out.
