The Draped Bust half dollar of 1794 and 1795 is extremely rare. The 1804 half dollar is one of the most famous American rarities, with only about 12 known. The Capped Bust half dollar of 1807 to 1839 is more common. Over 1 million Capped Bust halves were minted. The lettered edge deterred clipping. Bust halves are collected by die variety, with hundreds of distinct combinations catalogued.
