About Siamese Bullet Money
Silver coins shaped like a bullet or bent seed. Also called pod duang. Each piece was handmade by bending a silver strip and stamping it with marks. The bullet money system was unique to Thailand. Denominations were determined by weight. The baht, still the Thai currency unit, was originally a weight unit for bullet money. Replaced by flat European style coins under King Chulalongkorn in the late 1800s.
