About British Trade Dollar
Minted specifically for trade in the Far East. Featured Britannia standing on a shore with a merchant ship. The reverse showed denominations in Chinese, Malay, and Arabic. Competed with the US Trade Dollar and Mexican peso in China. Minted in Bombay and Calcutta. The British Trade Dollar was accepted throughout Asia. Discontinued in 1935 when the Hong Kong dollar replaced it in regional trade.
