About British Florin
Worth two shillings or one tenth of a pound. The florin was Britains first step toward decimalisation, being worth a tenth of a pound. The original 1849 florin was called the Godless florin because it omitted Dei Gratia from the inscription. Controversy forced a redesign. The florin was minted until 1967 and remained legal tender as 10 new pence until 1993. The Gothic florin of Victoria is considered a masterpiece.
