About Bolivian Boliviano
The boliviano replaced the Bolivian peso in 1987 after hyperinflation. Named after Simon Bolivar. Pegged to the US dollar at 6.9 bolivianos to 1 dollar. Bolivian banknotes feature national heroes and indigenous cultural motifs. The Banco Central de Bolivia was established in 1928. Bolivia nationalized its natural gas and oil industries in 2006 under President Evo Morales, generating revenue that stabilized the currency.
