About Belgian Franc
Belgium adopted the franc after independence from the Netherlands in 1830. Belgium was a founding member of the Latin Monetary Union in 1865. The Belgian franc was pegged to the French franc. Belgian Congo francs were a separate currency for the colonial empire. Replaced by the euro in 2002 at 40.3399 francs per euro. Belgian euro coins feature King Albert and later King Philippe.
