Bactrian Coin
About Bactrian Coin
The coins of the Greco Bactrian Kingdom in modern Afghanistan and Central Asia. These coins show a remarkable fusion of Greek and Indian artistic traditions. Bactrian kings depicted themselves in Greek style on the obverse with Greek legends on one side and Indian or Buddhist texts on the other. The largest Hellenistic coins ever minted, some 20 stater gold pieces weighed 170 grams. The Bactrian coinage influenced Indian art for centuries.
