Templar Check
About Templar Check
See Knights Templar Banking entry. The Templar letter of credit was revolutionary because it allowed pilgrims to travel without carrying gold. A pilgrim deposited money at a Templar preceptory in Europe and received a coded letter. At any Templar house in the Holy Land, the letter could be redeemed for the equivalent amount. The Templars charged a fee for this service. The system effectively created the first international banking network in Europe.
