About US Presidential Medal
The US Mint has produced presidential medals since the early 1800s. The series began with Thomas Jefferson and continues to the present. The medals feature the president on the obverse and a scene from their presidency or an allegorical figure on the reverse. Originally struck in bronze for distribution to Native American chiefs as tokens of peace, presidential medals are now sold to collectors in bronze and silver versions.
